On Halloween night I was by myself, walking through the night. I walked for hours and hours and blocks and blocks cause all I needed was left and right. I walked past groups of people dressed up like animals. People in circus masks that shined in the street lights. People covered in layers of plastic and paint that hid what they were but didn’t make them into something else. They didn’t notice me because I was alone –and the only costume I was wearing was the one I wear every day of the year. And I didn’t really notice them because they weren’t real, and they were doing things they wouldn’t do without masks and alcohol.
